Our mission at MonetDB Solutions is to provide data users with a feature-rich and high-performance database engine to accelerate their analytical jobs with frontier technologies.

We provide services to our open-source database system MonetDB as the data analytics workhorse in enterprise applications. Our product offerings span from cloud data warehouse services down to an embedded version on small-scale devices; built-in C, Python and fused with Java; from SQL support to in-database machine learning.

A critical part of realising this vision is continuously renewing, improving and extending MonetDB’s functionality and performance for a broad scope of data analytical workload.

Your impact​

As part of the MonetDB core dev. team, you will work on the following areas in the heart of the database engine to further perfect her balance of performance and resource utilisation:

  • Query compilation and optimisation (indices)
  • Parallel execution engine
  • Data privacy and security
  • Resource management
  • Concurrent transactions processing
  • Efficient storage structures (e.g. compressions)
  • Automatic physical data optimisation
  • Distributed query execution optimisation
  • Direct technical support to open-source users and commercial customers

What we look for​

We get excited when we meet people with the following profile:

  • Passion for OS-level technical development and optimisation
  • Comfortable working towards a multi-year vision with incremental releases, both independently and in a team
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Strong programming experience in C and Python
  • Knowledge of operating systems (e.g. Linux, Mac OS or Windows), network communications (e.g. client-server) and parallel programming
  • Bonus skills:
    • An MSc. or PhD degree in computer science or related field
    • Knowledge of RDBMS internals (e.g. MonetDB, PostgreSQL and MariaDB)
    • Good knowledge of SQL
    • Hands-on experience with cloud APIs (e.g. AWS, Azure and CloudFormation) and deployment tools (e.g. Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes).
