Software Engineer - Application Backend

At MonetDB Solutions, we have recently embarked on our quest for a revolutionary Green Data Warehouse, which perfects user satisfaction by balancing over data freshness, costs and performance with no resource waste. We envision a serverless analytics platform on which end-users effortlessly navigate through database versions tailored for their individual needs. The seamless user interface is powered by a sophisticated application backend that leverages the high-performance analytical database system MonetDB.

Your impact

As an adventurous application backend software engineer, you will work with our cloud team to design and develop the architectures for our next-generation cloud offerings, from DIY instances to a fully-managed platform. In this project, you will work on one or more of the following (but not limited to) areas of a distributed cloud data warehouse architecture:

Develop, test, deploy and upgrade workflow for complex cloud products.
Meta-data management.
A user interface layer for collaborative data projects.
Workflows to create, configure and manage large-scale compute clusters, networks and data sources.
Large-scale cloud data loading, and data storage and freshness management.
Distributed and elastic compute layer.
Load balancing and fault-tolerance policies

What we look for

We get excited when we meet people with the following profile:

Comfortable working towards a multi-year vision with incremental releases.
Strong experience with server-side technologies, in particular Python, Flask.
Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
Experience with operating systems (e.g. Linux, Mac OS and Windows)
Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP or similar cloud providers, and experience with deployment technologies, e.g. Docker, Terraform and Kubernetes.
Experience with developing distributed systems from small to large scale.
Bonus skills
- Good taste user experience and design
- Experience with full-stack or front-end development
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
